Subtle flaw in Kauri regarded as an enhancement
What appears to be a flaw in a small number of our Kauri Coasters is actually gum leaching (called a ‘fleck’) through the wood and sitting under the lacquer. It’s nothing to do with poor finishing or inferior Kauri, and is often regarded as an enhancement, not defect. Some timbers have knots, others bleed gum. If the product was made of plastic it would be ‘picture perfect’ but would have no ‘character’– the trademark of wooden products.Also in Blog
