The Kotiate was a prized weapon favoured by Rangatira (Maori chiefs) when speech-making. It was a short club, 350 Ð 400mm long normally made of whalebone or native hardwood.

The carving on whalebone examples was usually confined to the butt of the handle. Like other mere and patu (hand clubs), kotiate had wrist thongs to wrap around the warrior's hand to ensure the weapon was not lost during battle.

This Kotiates crafted from MDF board, rope and screen printed to add detail

Size is 200mm in length, perfect for the kids!
