Our Team
We are a hardworking, close-knit group, committed to producing and delivering best quality products. Though small in number, we strive for excellence in all that we do – one team member has been with Aeon more than 15 years, and several others approaching 10. Our work involves an almost cottage industry process enhanced by technology.

Mike Carlton
Mike is the eldest of four children to June and Colin Carlton. June, a New Zealand Maori of Ngati Whakaue decent (a Te Arawa sub-tribe, with affiliations to the Hinemoa Point Marae in Rotorua), was an art teacher at Katikati College for much of her working life.
It was June who encouraged Mike back into the arts in the late 1980’s, effectively creating the opportunity for him to develop Aeon Giftware.
Mike feels strongly about creating and presenting more than just ethnic souvenirs; he uses his knowledge as a New Zealand Maori to relate the mythology and ideology associated though the authentic designs and products his business produces and sells.
Since Aeon’s inception not only has Mike developed and grown an attractive and unique product range, but he’s has also fostered the growth of a close-knit staff. Because Aeon staff really know their products, are involved in all stages of production, they’re always able and willing to help!
Quite separate to Mike’s life as a business entrepreneur is a wonderful ongoing relationship with his wife Bev, their nine children and five grandchildren.
Dave Schenkel
Dave has been with Aeon more than 15 years, and he is the most senior staff member; prior to joining Aeon his background was in graphic design and commercial printing.
At Aeon Dave is in charge of the laser engravers, i.e. preparing artwork, scheduling and processing the workload as well as the maintenance. He heads production, leads the manufacturing team, which requires him to set and prioritize the workload, oversees quality control and assist with the design and implementation into production of new products. He is also an integral part of the design team.
Dave was born and raised in Rotorua, and is an avid model railroader. He has built his own massive portable exhibit layout (Schenkel Railroad), and participates in shows as often as time allows, with input and support from his partner Leanne and boys. ‘The SRR layout is a labour of love and passion.’
Raewyn Waerea
Raewyn has been with Aeon since 2002. She has three children, two dogs and three cats – and as if that’s not enough, she’s also kept busy with walking, reading, tapestry and socializing!
At Aeon Raewyn is an essential part of the production team; primarily responsible for paua inlaying, final assembly, packaging and quality control of all products. Like the rest of the team she is versatile and often seconded to assist with manufacture, screen printing and despatch.
Terry Gunn
Terry has been with Aeon since 2005, and before that worked for almost 40 years in the building industry. Married, he has three daughters, two step-daughters, and now gets to enjoy seven grand-daughters and five grand-sons; he spends his personal time enjoying rugby, reading, his iPod and being with his very close-knit family. He’s recently taken up cycling!!!
At Aeon Terry is responsible for material preparation, sawing, machining, and sanding the materials into raw products ready for laser engraving and finishing. When not working in the machine shop he is either assisting Dave running the laser engravers or assembling and preparing products for lacquering.
Reuben Middlemiss
Reuben has been with Aeon since 2007. He has belonged to the Rotorua Model Railway Club since he was 12, and quite separate to this interest enjoys building bridges (relationships) rather than creating walls (barriers). Reuben was born and bred in Rotorua where he has lived for most of his life.
At Aeon Reuben is responsible for keeping material stocks and raw products ahead of the laser engravers as well as final assembly and packaging of products. His role, like all other team members, is flexible and his quality work much appreciated.
Yvonne Rowe
Yvonne has been with Aeon since January 2010. She is married to Craig, and mum to three grown up children. Originally from Mount Maunganui, Yvonne loves the outdoors, her two new ‘babies’ (puppies), enjoys fishing, gardening, painting, and living alongside one of Rotorua’s beautiful lakes.
At Aeon Yvonne’s role includes accounts and administration, stocktaking, ordering and despatch, wages (to keep the troops happy and in line), and importantly, she is Aeon’s front line telephone receptionist.
John MacRae
John joined Aeon in June 2011. He has marketed a large number of businesses, and was a professional entertainer for some years. Married to Robyn, he has one son (Gene), and aside from family, his interests include health and fitness, travel and modern country music.
At Aeon John’s role involves all marketing and sales functions; his focus is on quality customer service, attention to detail, and ensuring that the growth and reputation Aeon has achieved over almost 20 years continues.
